Venezuela’s political turmoil has caused evacuation of non-emergency embassy personnel

The United States today ordered non-emergency embassy personnel to leave Venezuela, but did not fully evacuate diplomats as requested by the President of the Republic, Nicolas Maduro. The United States said that Maduro is no longer president.

The US State Department said in a notice that it had “ordered non-emergency US government employees to leave Venezuela.”

The announcement also said: “The US government has limited ability to provide emergency services to US citizens in Venezuela.”
